Product Details

Cast Iron Fusion Mineral Paint from the new colour release 'Lost At Sea' summer 2023. A new black paint tone to sit alongside Coal Black and Ash. This new colour Cast Iron looks how it sounds dark and smoky, less blue undertone than Ash.

Cast Iron – Strong and bold, Cast iron is an off black. Taking a cue from the heirloom kitchen favourite. This shade is equal parts timeless and sophisticated with warm undertones.

Pair with - Cashmere for a bold contrast.

Pair with - Coal Black for a sophisticated tonal look.

When these 3 colours sit next to each other there is a strong difference in the tones. We think this will become a great best seller. Not as intense as coal black and less dusty than Ash.

***Available to order now but will not ship until 24th June. If you are local, ordering available but cannot be collected until the 24th June. This stipulation is from head office to facilitate a smooth & timely global launch of the new colours. ****

What makes Fusion Mineral Paint so different?

Fusion Mineral has a totally unique formulation and can not be found anywhere else in the market. Fusion has a great flow, comes in handy 1 pint sizes and great containers for longer last paint that wont film over. Only premium quality ingredients and stay away from toxic chemicals and latex vinyl fillers, unlike most other furniture paint brands

Fusion  Mineral Paint is a 100% acrylic paint with no fillers! The pigments are all derived from natural minerals, and our paint is 100% non-toxic with no lead, and no phthalates. Plus - it’s got a built-in top coat that is UV, water, and stain resistant - meaning you don’t have to wax or seal it.

How To Apply Fusion Mineral Paint & Top Tips

How long does Fusion Paint take to dry?

Fusion is dry to the touch in about 30 minutes, but for best results, we recommend waiting 1-2 hours between coats. Tip* Cover your brushes and rollers and keep in a cool environment between coats, Fusion dries quicker than what you think and you don't want to ruin your fav brush. Cover over paint that has been decanted also.

Once applied Fusion Mineral paint takes about 21 days to cure (for the water to completely evaporate) and get to its most durable state, so we suggest being a little gentle for the first few days. Try not to hit it whilst hoovering or place and heavy vases on top.

What brushes rollers do you recommend for a smooth professional finish?

We highly recommend Cling on brushes and staalmeester rollers for the best possible finish. Fusion chip brushes are a value brush which can be used for less precious applications such as stain and finish oil, hemp oil or textured finishes when using fresco for example.

What can I use Fusion Paint on?

Just about everything! We’ve seen Fusion on front doors, kitchen and bathroom cabinets, even shoes! Leather Sofas, outdoor benches and floor tiles and more. We’re always testing the possibilities of Fusion. BUT if you are unsure always check what prep or primers are needed before hand, because different surfaces do need different approaches.

Can I use Fusion Mineral Paint outside?

Yes! Fusion is water and UV resistant, so it can last through rain and won’t fade in the sun. It’s been tried and tested - it will last through a Canadian winter! *Tip Do not used on weathered grey wood you need to take the weathered wood off and reveal the newer fresh wood underneath or it may only last 12 months or so.

How should I prep my furniture when using Fusion Mineral Paint?

A good paint is only as strong as the surface you put it on, so prep is key to durability. We recommend cleaning all surfaces with either Fusions TSP non rinse formula or for really tough cleaning and very dirty surfaces our best selling Grime Cutter.  For surfaces with a bit of a sheen, i.e varnished a scuff sand is needed for the paint to adhere to.

If the surface is extremely high gloss, very detailed, or can’t be sanded, you may need to use Fusion's Ultra Grip™ as an adhesion primer. Use Ultra grip for surfaces you wouldn't typically paint such as plastic, glass, metal

What if your furniture is waxed, can I paint over it with Fusion Mineral Paint?

You cannot paint over a waxed surface with Fusion Mineral Paint. First remove the wax very very thoroughly, with a wax stripper, or white spirits or similar, use  wire wool for faster removal, wipe down with rag and repeat, as many times as needed. Then clean well / scuff sand etc BEFORE attempting to paint.

For wood surfaces that are prone to bleed through or to seal pine knots, we recommend a coat or two of a stain blocking type primer such as our Blockade Primer or Zinsser BIN Shellac-based primer. Typical popular pine furniture and teak in the UK, and post war manufactured furniture can be ones to watch out for. Especially if painting whites and light tones. if painting in dark colours, tannins may not be too much of a problem, but best practice would be to block prime, or seal knots with shellac knotting solution.

How much Fusion paint do I need?

Not as much as you think! Each 500 ml jar of Fusion, paints about 75 square feet - which is about two coats on a large dresser. We chose to package Fusion in pints because it’s the size that most projects require, without having too much left over.

Please note that coverage does depend on the colour you’re painting with, your starting surface, and your painting technique. Whites are always more coats, and if going from dark to light this will be more coats. If the colour is a clear base / very pigmented saturated colour then these generally need a minimum of 3 coats ie Fort York Red. But don't forget, Fusion have a product called transition, which is made from recycled paint pigments that can help build coverage quicker and more cost effectively (about 1/2 the cost of a pint of fusion) See more info about Fusion's transition paint

Can I use Fusion Paint on my kitchen cabinets?

Absolutely! Fusion is extremely durable and easy to wipe clean. Be sure to checkout our painted kitchen blog post where we have detailed the steps and tips for a successful project.

When do I need to use a top coat with Fusion Mineral Pant?

With Fusion, you rarely need to use a top coat, but there are times where you may want to. We do recommend a top coat for higher traffic surfaces like kitchen cabinets or dining tables. In this case, we recommend either Fusion Tough Coat™ for lighter colours, Fusion Stain & Finishing Oil in Natural for darker colours or try our best selling General Finished High performance Topcoat in different sheen levels and works across all of the Fusion Paint colours.

What’s the shelf life?

Fusion  Mineral Paint stays good for 7 years when it is stored in an airtight container. We like to put a sheet cling film between the jar and the lid if we know we aren’t going to be using it in a while, as that helps to keep the air out!
