Im struggling to apply Dixie Belle Top Coat what's the best way?

If using a brush make sure it is damp, the coat should be thin and even. Avoid brushing back and forth lay the topcoat in one direction. You can apply with a microfibre roller for large surfaces or wipe on with the Dixie Belle blue sponge. After about an hour it should be dry and then you can apply a second coat to make it even.

Do you put on a Top coat first or Glaze first?

There is no right or wrong way to do this.Depending on the look you would like to achieve, but test in on a small area first. Dixie Belle Paint is very porous adding the glaze first will create an uneven look and sit heavy in patina and detailed areas. You wont have much control as to how much glaze you can remove, but does create an interesting look. If you want a smooth look and lots of control over the glaze as to how much you wipe off or leave in detailing you should top coat first leave for a day ideally and then apply your glaze.

My Top Coat is “yellowing”, what happened?

Dont worry it can be fixed! This comes down to a couple of things, when you apply a waterbased topcoat over the paint it can reactivate tannins in the orginal wood, pull through a heavy stain or even Nicotine if adequate cleaning hasnt been done. Some times these stains pull through whilst applying a topcoat making it appear to yellow. But the good news is the topcoat one dry will helpt to sea in the stain, simply paint and topcoat again and it should be resolved.

Doe Dixie Belle Paint have to be sealed? I thought it didnt need a topcoat?

No, once Dixie Belle Paint has cured which is after 30 days, it is durable just the way it is. You can paint and be done with it if you like the dead flat matt look. If this feel too chalky for you, then perhaps a topcoat or even a bit of howdy do hemp oil will soften the matt look and feel.

Should I use Easy Peasy Spray Wax before or after Top Coat?

The good news is that easy peasy spray wax is waterbased! Yes thats right! So you can do what ever you wish. It isnt needed to use both products from a durability point of view but they work together.

How do you use Easy Peasy Spray Wax?

Shake the bottle really really well, apply a  light mist on the furniture; take a lint free cloth and wipe. Repeat at least 2 more times once each layer has dried. As with any wax, this should be repeated every 6 to 9 months.

Can you paint leather or Fabric with Dixie Belle Paint?

Yes! Dixie Belle Paint is perfect for both.Lightly mist the material with water but don't saturate and then paint as you would usually. Apply a 2nd coat if it looks patchy.  When dry sand with 220 grit sanding sponge and your fabric will feel like leather. You can also apply a wax to make it feel a little more supple.

My paint is chipping off….Why?

Dixie Belle Chalk Paint adheres to many surfaces….some surfaces maybe a little trickier than others. Poor cleaning is often the result of adhesion problems. Be sure to throughly clean with a degreasing cleaning solution or try our fab Grime Cutter. Laminates or shiny slick surfaces need a little extra help, this is where Dixie Belle Slick Stick should be applied prior to painting. Also a little patience for the paint to cure will result in the paint hardening over a 30 day period.

How do I do a layered look?

Paint a base colour and after it dries paint a second colour. Use a 160 - 180 sanding sponge and start sanding away to let the base colour show through. You can also wet distress. Just dampen a sanding sponge and wipe away lightly until first coat is revealed. This works well if you have painted the first coat and waited a few days and then applied the second coat. You will need to wet distress within hours after application because once cured paint is difficult to remove.

Can I paint my kids furniture with Dixie Belle Paint?

Yes you can! Dixie Belle Paint is non-toxic with no VOC’s.

How do you paint with Dixie Belle Paint?

Dixie Belle Paint is very thick so a little goes a long way. The longer the lid stays off the thicker it will get. If you like a thinner look just add a little water and stir. Clean the item thoroughly you want to paint with our Grime Cutter , take a damp brush, (you can use a chip brush, special brushes designed for chalk painting or whatever brush you like to work with ) and paint a very thin coat. It will dry very quickly. Some items will need a second coat so after about 30 minutes add another coat.
